It's 2:47am. Your son's fever broke a few hours ago, climbed back to 102.6 an hour ago, and now he's flushed and miserable again. Your pediatrician told you, when this fever started dragging on, to alternate the two medicines. Acetaminophen at one time, ibuprofen a few hours later, back to acetaminophen after that. It sounded manageable in the exam room, with a printed handout in your hand and a full night's sleep behind you.
